Through My Lens by Amy Amantea
with Theatre Replacement
A project in development that combines different technologies, hospitality, image analysis and spoken text.
Amy Amantea is an artist with a lived experience of blindness, specifically having a total of 2% vision in one eye. She is also a photographer with a practice that involves walking the city at twilight looking for interesting light patterns and capturing them with her camera.
Through My Lens is an interdisciplinary performance that brings these life experiences into one space where Amantea shares her work as a photographer and audiences describe her images — images she has never “seen” — back to her. The photos will alter and reveal themselves in accordance with the conversation and open up new realms of perception — a reciprocal collision of visual and non-visual experiences.
Through My Lens received its first work in progress showing at Vines Festival in August 2021.

LIVESTREAM
An online version of Through My Lens will receive its “Alpha” showing at Kingston’s FOLDA festival and be followed by an artists talkback.
FOLDA’s Alpha presentations are working demonstrations of projects in their earliest stages, ready for internal testing, but requiring audience feedback to spark the next stage of development.
