BIOBOXES: Artifacting Human Experience

(2007-2011)

BIOBOXES: Artifacting Human Experience is a collection of short, bilingual one-person shows for one-person audiences that take place in a very intimate theatre: a box worn on the performer's shoulders. Through an interview process with first-generation Canadians, six artists of diverse backgrounds have created tiny shows that can be performed in both English and another respective language, including French, Japanese, Cantonese, Italian, Serbo-Croatian and German. Directed by Maiko Yamamoto and James Long and created and performed by Anita Rochon, Cindy Mochizuki, Donna Soares, Una Memesevic, Marco Soriano and Paul Ternes.

Originally co-produced by the High Performance Rodeo & Theatre Replacement, BIOBOXES premiered at the High Performance Rodeo in Calgary and toured to the PuSh Festival in Vancouver, Curtain Razors in Regina, BC Scène in Ottawa, Theatre Centre in Toronto, Festival TransAmériques in Montréal, Pazz Performing Arts Festival in Oldenburg, Germany, Doors Open in Richmond and the Calgary Folk Music Festival in Calgary.
