AM A examines identity through the lens of Neuroplasticity, a science that explores the brain’s capacity for change. Now widely acknowledged that the adult brain is not a fixed structure, what we once assumed was unchangeable is open for exploration and possibility. am a is created by a collective of artists from Vancouver and Montréal led by core collaborators Mindy Parfitt and Amber Funk Barton. The performance uses personal texts, science, dance and song to explore the complexity of what it is to be human — to dare to succeed, and to dare to fail. As the artists perform in mediums they are not trained in (Mindy in dance, and Amber in singing), they will expose their own vulnerabilities and weaknesses and probe further their central question: is change possible? am a premieres in Vancouver at The Cultch, Feb 21 to March 4, 2017.
